More AI, better engineers: the view from production

Head of AI Robert Pop on why real-world AI adoption is increasing — not shrinking — the demand for strong software engineers.

A year of putting AI to work on live client projects has left WE AS WEB with a counter-intuitive conclusion: the more the company uses AI in real delivery, the greater its need for strong engineers becomes.

In the company’s account, AI does not replace specialists — it changes the nature of their work. By absorbing repetitive tasks and compressing delivery timelines, it frees engineers to take on more complex problems, which raises the professional bar rather than lowering it.

That view is backed by infrastructure. Since 2024, WE AS WEB has funded an internal AI Lab dedicated to applied research, testing AI in real projects, and defining standards for its responsible use — turning AI from a set of tools into an organizational capability.

“The more we use AI in real projects, the more we need better developers — not fewer.”
